The installation is a mechanism for the sacred evaporation of birch sap, a symbol of vitality, on a sacrificial altar, consisting of architectural plans for buildings with a repressive history.
Birch has long been considered a symbol of purity and spring. During the spring the tree can share some of its useful and valuable nutritious juice. What will happen to a birch when the interference in its awakening becomes so strong that all the juices that it gives, evaporating drop by drop, are absorbed by the structures that have grown into its base?
The work is dedicated to "Memorial," the largest center for the study of political repressions, which itself was subjected to repression and closed by the Russian government.
